Junior 1 AcroDance

This full season program is perfect for children ages 7-11 who are new to the style of AcroDance!

In this class, dancers will learn to create smooth and fluid transitions between dance and Acro skills. Building on the concepts learned in Mini AcroDance, dancers will learn skills such as headstands, elbow stands, cartwheels, and walkovers.

Note: Junior 1 must be taken before Junior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.

Junior 1 Ballet

In this full season program, dancers will start doing exercises at the barre, working from new ballet positions, and incorporating more detailed arms with different steps.

In addition, building on the concepts learned in Mini Ballet, dancers will learn ballet terminology and definitions, how to spot for their turns, and how to articulate through their feet.

Dancers at the Junior level are eligible to join the JLSD ballet examination track.

Junior 1 Jazz

In this full season program, dancers will begin combining different steps together to create more difficult sequences.

In addition, building on the concepts learned in the Mini Jazz-Tap combo class, they will learn new travelling and foundational steps, single pirouettes, and the basics of travelling jumps. Dancers will also build on steps learned in previous levels by changing directions and adding arms.

Junior 1 Tap

Building on the concepts learned in the Mini Jazz-Tap combo class, dancers in this full season program will begin combining single and double sounds into more complex rhythms, and will be introduced to new standard style steps and combinations (i.e., maxi ford, Irish, buffalo).

Dancers at this level should be able to clap and count multiple rhythms, have basic knowledge of Tap terminology, and have a strong understanding and execution of all basic single and double sounds.

Junior 1/2 Hip Hop

In this full season program, dancers will be introduced to the foundations of hip hop, namely grooves, rocks, and other basic steps.

Building on the concepts learned in Mini Hip Hop, dancers will learn how to put steps together, add grooves to basic steps, and how to pick up choreography. Dancers will also be introduced to freestyling, the basics of waving, tutting and breaking, and will learn how to isolate certain parts of their body.

Junior 1/2 Lyrical

Influenced by and incorporating movement elements from modern, ballet, and jazz, lyrical encourages freedom of movement, fluidity, and improvisation.

In this full season program, dancers will learn a variety of physical skills, as well as how to count the beats of the music, express their emotions while dancing, and differentiate between slow controlled and sharp movements.

This is a beginner level class – no previous experience is necessary.

Junior 1/2 Musical Theatre

This full season program is geared towards kids with an interest in the world of theatre and performing.

Dancers will learn a variety of physical skills, as well as stage directions, basic music notes/rest names and values, pitch matching, how to act out simple emotions, and character analysis. Students will then use these newfound skills to learn scenes and choreography from popular musicals.

This is a beginner level class – no previous experience is necessary.

Junior 2 AcroDance

This full season program is perfect for children ages 7-11 who have experience in AcroDance!

In this class, dancers will learn to create smooth and fluid transitions between dance and Acro skills. Building on the concepts learned in Mini & Junior 1 AcroDance, dancers will learn skills such as headstands, elbow stands, cartwheels, and walkovers.

Note: Junior 1 must be taken before Junior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.

Junior 2 Ballet

In this full season program, dancers will complete longer exercises at the barre that introduce new steps and incorporate more arm positions.

In addition, building on the concepts learned in Junior 1 Ballet, dancers will be introduced to turning steps and arabesque position, more complex travelling steps, and more complex formations in choreography.

Dancers at the Junior level are eligible to join the JLSD ballet examination track.

Junior 2 Jazz

Building on the concepts learned in Junior 1 Jazz, dancers in this full season program will be introduced to more athletic conditioning exercises, and will learn more difficult travelling steps, jumps, and turns (including double pirouettes).

Dancers at this level are expected to demonstrate a greater level of flexibility and strength, perform choreography with facial expressions and personal style, and demonstrate a strong understanding and application of spotting for turns.

Junior 2 Tap

Building on the concepts learned in Junior 1 Tap, dancers in this full season program will learn new steps and harder variations of steps learned in previous levels, and will be introduced to new double and triple sound rhythms.

Dancers at this level are expected to demonstrate great knowledge and understanding of all basic tap steps from previous levels, count steps with and without music, and have a greater understanding of musicality.
