Senior 1 Ballet

Dancers in this full season program will complete exercises that are longer and more detailed. In addition, they will be introduced to new and more complex steps.

Dancers at this level should be able to apply proper turnout and posture without instruction, have a great understanding/knowledge of ballet terminology, and have a great sense of balance/strength when executing exercises in the centre.

Dancers at the Senior level are eligible to join the JLSD ballet examination track.

Note: Senior 1 must be taken before Senior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.

Age: 13-17

Senior 1 Jazz

In this full season program, dancers will learn more advanced jumps and turns, as well as more intricate combinations.

Dancers at this level should demonstrate a greater level of flexibility and strength, perform choreography with facial expressions and personal style, and should be working to apply proper technique at all times throughout class.

Note: Senior 1 must be taken before Senior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.

Senior AcroDance

Building on the concepts learned in Intermediate AcroDance, dancers in this full season program will continue to build strength, power, control and proper execution of skills.

Dancers will work on a variety of skills including walkovers, handstand walking, handstand presses, controlled leg movement while in balances, partnering and the combination of moves in tumbling.

Age: 14-17

Senior Contemporary

Influenced by and incorporating movement elements from modern, ballet, and jazz, contemporary encourages freedom of movement, fluidity, and improvisation.

Building on the concepts learned in Intermediate Lyrical, dancers in this full season program will hone a variety of physical skills, and will continue to develop their ability to improvise movement to any music, add artistry into their movement and make bold choices, and to express more complex emotions and stories through movement.

Senior Hip Hop

Building on the concepts learned in Intermediate Hip Hop, dancers in this full season program will maintain and apply a complete understanding of all foundational steps and basics from previous levels.

Dancers at this level are expected to perform steps with different textures and grooves, have a good understanding of and vocabulary in waving, tutting, popping and breaking, have the ability to quickly pick up and retain choreography, and have the ability to freestyle and/or make up their own choreography.

Senior Musical Theatre

This full season program is geared towards kids with an interest in the world of theatre and performing.

Building on the concepts learned in Intermediate Musical Theatre, dancers will learn how to make bold and intentional acting choices, how to embody a character, and how to perform with artistry and show emotional changes/expressions. Students will then use these newfound skills to learn scenes and choreography from popular musicals.

Dancers at this level are expected to have a strong understanding of ballet and jazz technique, have the ability to dance in character heels, and to participate and contribute during improvisational acting exercises.

Age: 13-17

Pointe

This class focuses on developing the strength, technique, and artistry required for dancing on pointe. Dancers in this full season programs will learn proper alignment, balance, and footwork, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

Dancers at this level should be able to apply proper turnout and posture without instruction, have a great understanding/knowledge of ballet terminology, and have a great sense of balance/strength when executing exercises in the centre.

Note: Dancers must be registered in two ballet classes.

Senior Tap

Building on the concepts learned in Intermediate Tap, dancers in this full season program will learn turning steps, new variations of steps from previous levels, and will continue learning the foundations of pick-ups and wings.

Dancers at this level are expected to be able to count steps and combinations with and without music, perform steps at a faster speed, and pick up and retain choreography.

Age: 14-17

REGISTER

Senior 2 Ballet

In this full season program, barre, centre, and enchainment become more complex, and dancers are introduced to quicker and more complex allegro and turns.

Dancers at this level are expected to be able to maintain and control their posture, placement, and alignment, understand and apply the directions of the body, understand and execute verbal instructions, exhibit a 90-degree arabesque line, and increased stamina is needed for the longer class time.

Dancers at the Senior level are eligible to join the JLSD ballet examination track, and may be considered to begin working on pointe.

Note: Senior 1 must be taken before Senior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.

Senior 2 Jazz

Dancers in this full season program will learn more advanced jumps, and will work on fouetté turns, more intricate combinations, completing triple pirouettes and multiple turn progressions.

Dancers at this level are expected to have a greater level of flexibility, be able to improvise, and be able to apply strength and proper technique at all times throughout class.

Note: Senior 1 must be taken before Senior 2, or you must be assessed upon joining the studio.
